When the Desert Cools Down
A quiet night note from Redbird Motel as the desert cools and the sign stays on.
The desert changes after the sun goes down.
The heat begins to leave the pavement, and the shadows stretch across the parking lot.
Out by the road, the Redbird Motel sign comes on for another night.
There are a few cars in the lot. The front desk is quiet. A fresh pot of coffee is waiting for anyone who happens to stop by.
Every now and then, headlights appear in the distance.
Some slow down.
Most keep going.
There is not much happening tonight, and that is all right.
The desert gets a little cooler. The sky gets a little darker. Somewhere down the road, another car disappears into the night.
A few more will pass before morning.
Some might stop.
Most will not.
Either way, the sign stays on.
