Coffee Before Sunrise
A quiet morning note from Redbird Motel, written before the desert sun comes up.
The first pot of coffee is usually ready before sunrise.
At this hour, the parking lot is still quiet. Most of the rooms are dark, and there is not much moving beyond the occasional pair of headlights out on the road.
The desert is different in the morning.
The air is cooler. The sky slowly turns from black to blue, and for a little while, everything seems to be waiting.
Soon, doors will open.
Someone will carry a suitcase to the car. Someone else will stop by the front desk before getting back on the road.
A few cups of coffee will disappear along the way.
Nothing unusual.
Just another morning at the Redbird Motel.
The sun will be up soon.
The coffee is ready.
